- As Varanapallil Panickar was the commander of the Kayamkulam raja, so Akathayyadi Panickar, another Ezhava was the chief of the forces of Kottarakkara (Elayidathu Swarupam) raja. Once in every 12 years, it was customary for him to go around the principality on an elephant when Nayar women after having taken their bath and properly covered their bosoms had to honor him with ululation before the lighted oil lamp and a cylindrical measure gauge filled with golden paddy. During the function of wedlock in his house, Nayars had to cut vegetables for curries. The Brahmin houses like Vanjipuzha and Kulakkada during the time of marriage had to acknowledge his position by sending customary presents. He was entrusted with the function of sending on the back of the elephant, a pot filled with purificatory liquor for the consecration of the idol of the temple at Mannadi.
